The Government u-turns on plans to slash Housing BenefitPosted by: Paula Miller Tagged in: Untagged

Housing Benefit Tenants and Landlords can breath a sigh of relief as David Cameron and the Government has finally realised it would be unfair and unworkable to cut Housing Benefit for the long-term unemployed.
Cutting benefits without first solving the UK’s huge gap between unemployment figures and the number of available jobs would have been simply ridiculous.
This could have cause financial hardship for Tenants and may have also forced homeless numbers up if Landlords had to evict Tenants who were unable to make up their rent. Good sense prevails as the Government u-turns on another policy that didn’t make any sense.
The Government must work with Landlords to provide decent homes for Housing Benefit Tenants as there is a large shortage in the numbers of Social Housing homes available in the UK.
